The kangaroo and emu
are Aussie through and through.
No other country has them,
and the whole world knows that’s true.
Is that why they’re our symbols,
because they’re ours alone?
No — kangaroos and emus can’t
move backwards, it’s well known!
That’s why they’re on our coat of arms,
the fact can’t be ignored:
they symbolise a nation
that’s always moving forward.

Why do kangaroos cross the road?
To get to the other side!
But ’roos don’t know their highway code
and some of them have died.
When travelling through Aussie bush,
best keep your eyes peeled wide.
Watch for signs and please don’t rush –
especially ’round dawn and dusk –
as that’s the time when ’roos might hide
along a lonely roadside.

“exactly who are you?”
“Hmph!” said the joey,
“I’m a kangaroo!”
The puppy said, “I’m only new,
I think I’ll grow quite tall.”
The joey laughed. “Next to me,
you’ll always be quite small!”
